Meet Norbert Vieth

Born in Germany and transplanted to the U.S. in 1968, Norbert has spent his life growing plants and teaching people how to care for them. He opened his first greenhouse in 1971, managed successful garden centers in Southern Maryland, served wholesale clients, and even worked as Chief of Horticulture for an organic chemical company traveling across the U.S. and Europe.

After moving to Virginia in 2006, Norbert opened what is now Vieth Farm & Nursery in Chase City. Today, he runs two greenhouses (with plans to expand), sharing his love of gardening and his sense of humor. He often tells customers: “Look at my thumbs! Are they green? NO! They’re dirty! That’s all you need for gardening.”
